AMCATS Lose in Overtime to Curry at Salem State Tournament

SALEM, Mass – Friday afternoon The Anna Maria Men's soccer team travelled to Salem, Mass to participate in a beginning of the season tournament hosted by Salem State University. The 'Cats kicked off against the Curry College Colonels in the first game of the tournament and though the Colonels kept a steady attack the whole game the AMCATS held their opponents scoreless in regulation, unable to net a goal of their own. The teams entered in to a sudden death overtime and Curry was able to score the winning goal in the 97th minute.

Defense and goalie Jeff Donahue (Rockland, Mass) were the story of the day for the 'Cats. Donahue faced 13 shots in the game allowing just the one by in overtime. Offensively, the AMCATS had one shot on net that came off the foot of sophomore midfielder Connor Francis (Colchester, Conn) in the first half.

The Colonels rattled off a total of 20 shots in the game with 13 on net. The shot that found the back of the net for Curry came from freshman Brandon Dicken (East Hartford, Conn), assisted by sophomore defenseman, Nick Vreeland (Kensington, Conn), to win the game.

The AMCATS will be back at Salem State University tomorrow for a 1pm kickoff against either Salem State or Southern Vermont College.
