Mattioli, Casey named to GNAC All-Conference Teams

WINTHROP, Mass.Junior Christopher Mattioli (Sturbridge, Mass.) of the Anna Maria College men's soccer team has been named to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) All-Conference Second Team and teammate Derrick Casey (Worcester, Mass.) has been named to the All-Conference Third Team, as announced by the league office on Monday.

Mattioli lead the team in goals and total points for the 2015 season. He scored eight goals and recorded one assist for a total of 17 points. Of his eight goals he tallied two game winners including one in a 6-0 win over Becker (10/6) and one in a 2-1 victory at Lasell (10/17).

Mattioli was named the GNAC Men's Soccer Player of the Week once this season after scoring three times in the 5th week of the season. He earned this honor after the AMCATS picked up their first victory of the season as he scored twice in the 4-1 conference win over Suffolk University. Mattioli's first goal of the game was a penalty kick that tied the score at 1-1, while his second score of the day put Anna Maria up 2-1.

Sophomore Derrick Casey has been named to the GNAC All-Conference Third Team as a vital part of the AMCATS defensive lineup this season.

Casey added strength to the AMCATS defensive end throughout the 2015 season while also posting the loan goal in the team's 8-1 loss to Johnson & Wales University (10/21). He posted a season-high six shots in the AMCATS 2-1 victory over Lasell (10/17) and totaled 22 shots with eight on goal this season.

Casey's defensive efforts helped the AMCATS allow, on average, just 2.71 goals against per game.

The AMCATS ended the 2015 season with a 3-12-1 overall recorded and 2-7 record in conference play.
