Men’s Soccer Drops 1-0 Conference Battle to Mount Ida

Paxton, Mass.— The Anna Maria College Men's Soccer team dropped 1-0 in their second conference game of the season to the Mustangs of Mount Ida College on Saturday afternoon.

With the loss the AMCATS drop to 0-3-1 overall and 0-2 in conference play. The Mustangs improve to 3-2-1 overall and 1-0-1 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Mustang's junior midfielder JT Yager (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) scored the game deciding goal with just 12 minutes remaining in the first half to lead the Mount Ida men's soccer team past Anna Maria, 1-0. The battle started early in the game with a lot of action in the midfield as both teams fought to break into the defensive end. Anna Maria held a slight edge in total shots with 14 while Mount Ida trailed by one with 13. The Mustangs finished with a total of six corner kicks to the AMCATS three.  The physical contest saw 27 total fouls called with just one yellow card handed out to the AMCATS.

SCORING

The visitors capitalized on an Anna Maria foul right in front of the net as Yager fired a free kick past AMCAT netminder Elliot Kuzma (East Haven, Conn.). The AMCATS saw multiple opportunities in The Mustang's defensive end including a penalty kick in the 74th minute of play. The kick was taken by AMCAT defender Derrick Casey and went high over the crossbar leaving the Mustangs with the 1-0 lead.

NETMINDERS

Between the pipes, Kuzma made five saves in the loss. On the opposite end, netminder Riley Ford (Guilderland, N.Y.) turned aside four shots to pick up the conference victory for the Mustangs.
