Rams Charge to 5-1 Win Against AMCAT Men's Soccer

Framingham, Mass.- Framingham State senior forward Cory Cardiero (Fall River, Mass.) scored a goal and registered two assists en route to a 5-1 victory over Anna Maria in non-conference men's soccer action Tuesday afternoon in Framingham. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

Framingham State scored three times in the first half and held a 26-18 advantage in shots over the full 90 minutes in order to take a 5-1 win against Anna Maria. The Rams also held a 7-4 edge in corner kicks.

SCORING

First Half: The Rams opened up scoring early in the contest when Cardiero headed in a long cross from freshman Lucas Medeiros (Hudson, Mass.) to take an early lead.

The AMCATS answered back in the 25th minute after a Rams foul setup a free kick for Anna Maria. They sent a long cross through the box that was headed back across the net by junior Dalton Gill (Florida, N.Y.) and redirected into the open net by junior Christopher Mattioli (Sturbridge, Mass.) to tie the score.

The Rams struck back when junior Corey Sousa (Hudson, Mass.) sent a low strike past the AMCAT keeper after gathering a lead pass from Cardeiro. FSU closed the 1st half scoring when freshman Corey Dunn (Chelmsford, Mass.) chipped a shot over a AMC defender after the keeper punched out a cross.

Second Half: The Rams added two goals in the second stanza when newcomer Ken Stahovish (Springfield, Mass.) scored with an assist coming from junior Siman Appiah (Worcester, Mass.). Sophomore Andy Segura (Haverhill, Mass.) scored the Rams 5th goal when a Cardeiro shot was saved and generated a rebound.

GOALKEEPERS

Josh Arno (Natick, Mass.) made seven saves in the first 76 minutes for FSU before being relieved by freshman Maxwell Amoah (Worcester, Mass.). Elliot Kuzma (East Haven, Conn.) made nine saves for the AMCATS.

WHAT's NEXT  

Anna Maria will host Suffolk in a GNAC matchup on Saturday, September 3rd at 2:00 p.m. The Rams will travel to Bridgewater State for a MASCAC contest on the same day at 10:00 a.m.
