Pride Pushes Past Men's Soccer, 5-0

SPRINGFIELD, Mass.—Five different players scored to lead the Springfield College men's soccer team to a 5-0 shutout victory against the AMCATS of Anna Maria College on Monday evening in non-conference action.

With the win, Springfield improves to 6-1 on the season, while the loss drops Anna Maria to 0-4-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED

After a scoreless first half, the Pride peppered the AMCATS in the second half, holding a 16-2 advantage in shots and netting five goals to take the victory. On the other end of the field, the AMCATS totaled five shots on the day, with just one on-target shot, taken in the final 19 minutes of the game. Springfield also held a 10-0 advantage in corner kicks on the day.

SCORING

In the second minute of the second half, Springfield's Ryan Elster scored off of a free kick to get things going for the Pride. Tim Wood scored in the 54th minute, assisted by Danny Murphy, while Luke Alvaro netted a goal four minutes later to put the Pride up 3-0.

Goals by Wayne Belcher and Curtis Bolduc in the 65th and 66th minutes sealed the 5-0 win.

GOALKEEPING

Anna Maria's Elliot Kuzma (East Haven, Conn.) took the loss and totaled four saves. Springfield's Billy Schmid did not see a shot in 71 minutes of action before giving way to Stewart Frank, who made one save in the final 19 minutes of action.

Anna Maria hosts Mass. Maritime Academy on Wednesday in a 7:00 p.m. non-conference tilt before traveling to St. Joseph's College of Maine on Saturday for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference matchup.
