AMCATS Gallop Past Mustangs in GNAC Action, 73-55

NEWTON, Mass. – Quantez Franklin (West Yarmouth, Mass.) and Kyle McKissick (Charlton, Mass.) each scored 19 points for Anna Maria College, who dealt the Mount Ida Mustangs a 73-55 home loss in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) men's basketball on Saturday afternoon.

Mount Ida outscored their visitors 34-31 after the break, but had already fallen into a 21 point hole thanks to 56% shooting in the first half from Anna Maria.

The visitors raced out to leads of 19-6 and 26-8 before seven points from Franklin, including an old-fashioned three-point play help Anna Maria extend their advantage to 33-12 with seven minutes to play in the first half.

Treace Macklin (Brockton, Mass.), who had 11 points for the Mustangs, answered with a three-pointer, but the Mustangs were unable to trim the lead before the break, which saw the scoreboard read 42-21.

Macklin was 3-for-4 from behind the three-point line, while he and Dujon each shot 50% from the field. Guard Nathan Bueno (Methuen, Mass.) was the other Mustang in double-figures, scoring ten points on 5-8 shooting, and adding a game-high seven assists.

Dujon and Macklin hit three-pointers to open the second half, and Bueno hit a jump shot to cut the lead to 17 points, 61-44, but that was as close as Mount Ida would get, as Joseph Barillo (Dania Beach, Fla.) answered with one of his two three-pointers.

Barillo added 11 points and four assists for Anna Maria, who were lead in helpers by Hugh Daye's (Worcester, Mass.) six. Freshman Trevon Farley (Lawrence, Mass.) had ten of his twelve points in the first half for the AMCATS.

The lead would reach 25 points in the final minutes, as a Quantez layup made it 73-48, though Macklin hit one more triple and Mount Ida scored the final seven points to get the final deficit back under twenty.

Mustang senior Patrick Wenz (Long Island, N.Y.) had three blocks and two steals in a defensive effort, while Michael Joseph (Windsor, Conn.) was the high-rebounder with five.

Franklin had just five rebounds as well, but he led the AMCATS too, as Anna Maria edged the Mustangs 27-26 on the glass.

Mount Ida (4-13, 2-8 GNAC) travels to Rivier on Wednesday evening before hosting Suffolk next Saturday afternoon in their next two GNAC contests.

Anna Maria (7-10) will get the Rams first, as they entertain Suffolk in Paxton on Wednesday at 7:00 pm.
