Three First Half Goals Propel Anna Maria Past PMC Soccer

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The visiting AMCATS of Anna Maria College tallied three first half goals en route to a 3-0 victory over Pine Manor College Women's Soccer on Tuesday afternoon at Hedley Field. The win helps Anna Maria improve to 4-3-1 overall, while the Gators fall to 2-5-0 on the season.

It took just under eight minutes for Anna Maria to find the back of the PMC net in the opening half. AMC junior Cristina Turley (Waterford, CT) was able to tuck away her first of the afternoon when she corralled her own rebound and took a shot that bounced off of a PMC defender and in the net, to make the score 1-0.

Turley would add another to her total later in the half but not before AMC freshman Rebecca Krasowski (Saugus, MA) tallied the first goal of her collegiate career at 28:35 of the first. The fleet footed defender made her way in on the Gators' net on a run from midfield but her initial shot on goal was sent away by PMC senior goalkeeper Natasha Kopystynsky (Johnsburg, IL). Unfortunately for the Gators', Kopystynsky parried the ball back to Krasowski who redirected the ball into the net to give AMC a 2-0 lead.

Turley then added her second of the game in the 36h minute when she found a ball in the box following an AMC corner kick. With just under ten minutes to play in the first half, AMC's Arianna Masley (Oxford, MA) delivered a corner kick to the penalty area that the Gators seemed to clear from danger. However, in a scramble in front of the net, Turley retook possession from the Gators defense and finished for her second goal of the game. From there, the AMCATS would cruise to the 3-0 victory.

The AMCATS looked destined to add to their margin, but a combination of Kopystynsky and some hard luck helped Pine Manor remain in the contest. Kopystynsky recorded 16 saves on the afternoon, while the AMCATS hits six posts on a total of 37 shots. One of those posts came on a penalty kick by Sarah Fogg (Gorham, ME) late in the second half.

Anna Maria will be back in action on Saturday when they host Suffolk University at 2:30 PM. The Gators will be back on the road this Thursday when they travel to Longmeadow, MA to take on Bay Path College at 4:00 PM.
