AMCATS drop conference contest to Hawks

BRISTOL, R.I. - Senior Claire Halliday (Trenton, N.J.) and junior Danica Delia (Norwalk, Conn.) each had five goals and three assists for the Roger Williams University Women's Lacrosse team in a 21-4 win over Anna Maria College on Wednesday afternoon.

The Hawks were quick out of the gate when Halliday scored the first unassisted goal just 48 seconds into the game, quickly followed by another Halliday goal less than a minute later. Halliday was able to score her third goal off an assist by Kate Malenczak (Sayville, N.Y.), making the score 6-0 even before the AMCats were able to get on the board. Junior Katie Schebel (Ludlow, Mass.) notched the first score of the game for the AMCats on a free position shot at the 19:01 mark.

Freshman Jessica Searl (Glastonbury, Conn.) also added three goals for the Hawks during the first 30 minutes, while Schebel added another score for Anna Maria with 6:34 left to play in the second half. By the end of the period, the Hawks held a 14-2 advantage.

The second half started quickly when Malenczak scored her only goal of the game at 29:22. Six other Hawks scored in the second half, the last goal from freshman Michela Cupo (Leominster, Mass.) with 6:41 to play. Sophomore goalie Justine Sullivan (Norwell, Mass.) got the win with two saves on just five shots.

Fabienne Jules (Leominster, Mass.) took the loss for the AMCats, playing all 60 minutes and making 13 saves on the day. Schebel led Anna Maria with three goals on the day, with senior Crystal Torres (Southbridge, Mass.) scoring the fourth and final goal for the AMCats.

Roger Williams' next game will be home on April 2nd at 3:30 p.m. versus Gordon College. The next game for Anna Maria College is tomorrow, March 31st at Mount Ida College at 4:00 p.m.
