Lasers shoot their way to victory over AMCATS

NEWTON, MA- Lasell College collected its first women's lacrosse win of the season in a 19-3 defeat of Anna Maria College on Wednesday afternoon at Grellier Field.  Sophomores Ashley Slattery (Weymouth, MA) and Neila Kudla (Groton, MA) had a uniform six points each in the game, on five goals and one assist apiece.  Lasell stands at 1-3 this season and Anna Maria holds at 0-2. 

Rebecca Stanton (Agawam, MA) also scored five goals for the Lasers and Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Rookie of the Week Britney Wuorio (Bolton, MA) notched three goals and one assist, for four points.   Chelsea Caren (Redding, CT) added one goal and one helper, while also picking up a game-high five ground balls and four caused turnovers.

Slattery added a team-best four draw controls and recorded three ground balls while Kudla reversed the statistics with three draw controls and four ground balls.

Kristin Coderre (Monson, MA), this week's GNAC Goalkeeper of the Week, turned aside 10 of the AMCATS 13 on-target shots while in the net.  Coderre saved 76.9% of the shots sent her way in the non-conference battle, improving her overall saver percentage to 51.1% this season.

The AMCATS had three different players score each goal, beginning with Mackenzie Coakley at 18:23 in the first.  Sandy Acosta followed with a goal slightly over three minutes later and Amanda Hevy completed Anna Maria's scoring in the second period at 16:37. All three of Anna Maria's goals were scored unassisted.

Fabienne Jules made eight stops in the AMCATS net, facing 27 total shots by the Lasers.

Lasell went on a 3-0 run through the first eight minutes of the game, holding Anna Maria scoreless past the 20 minute mark.  Midway through the game, the score was tight, 3-2, before Lasell exploded into a five goal spurt to end the first period, with Slattery scored a hat trick during that time.  Lasell held a 9-2 lead at the break.

Lasell's 5-0 run extended into the second half when the Lasers dominated with a 10-1 run through the final buzzer. 

Lasell was successful in holding the edge in all statistical categories, winning 13-11 in draw controls, 19-17 in ground balls, 13-8 in clears, and 10-8 in saves.  Lasell also forced 18 turnovers for Anna Maria. 

On Monday, March 21st, the Lasers will travel to Nichols College for their next non-conference matchup.  The Lasers and the Bison will take the first draw at 7:00 p.m.
