Anna Maria shutout by Scots in home opener

PAXTON, Mass. (03.19.11) – Junior Krysti Leach (Naples, Maine) scored five goals on five shots while also dishing out two assists as the Gordon College women's lacrosse team shutout Anna Maria College by a score of 17-0 during a The Commonwealth Coast Conference matchup at AMCAT Field on Saturday afternoon. The win improves the Fighting Scots to 2-2 overall and 1-0 in the conference, while the loss drops the AMCATS to 0-3 on the season, including an 0-2 mark in TCCC-play.

Leach led all players with her seven points, adding three ground balls and three draw controls. Freshman Anna Blomberg (Simsbury, Conn.) also had a strong game, earning four points on three goals and an assist, while also grabbing five ground balls in the win. Freshman Lisa Richardson (Reading, Mass.) collected a hat trick for the Scots, while senior Caroline Moore (Clinton Corners, N.Y.) led all players with six ground balls. Freshman goalkeeper Danielle Maguire (Braintree, Mass.) earned the shutout victory in net for the Scots, needing to make just one save for the win.

Junior Katie Schebel (Ludlow, Mass.) paced the AMCATS with three ground balls on the day, while senior Heidi Toce (Ashland, Mass.) recorded AMC's only shot of the contest. Freshman Fabienne Jules (Leominster, Mass.) took the loss in goal for the AMCATS despite making 13 saves on the afternoon, including 10 in the first half alone.

The Scots came out strong in the opening half, scoring four goals in the first five minutes of action, including two scores from Leach. Gordon added eight more unanswered goals before the first frame was complete, receiving three more tallies from Leach and two from Blomberg to go into the break holding a 12-0 advantage.

Gordon controlled the second half, scoring five additional goals to seal the 17-0 victory. Freshman Stephanie Fitzgerald (Groveland, Mass.) contributed two goals and an assist during the period, while Richardson added two tallies of her own.

Both teams will return to action on Monday, as the Scots hit the road to face Husson at 4:00 pm, and the AMCATS travel to battle Simmons at 7:00 pm.
