Schebel nets 100th goal as Nor'easters blow past AMCATS

PAXTON, Mass. – (04.09.11) Senior Danielle Cate (Boscawen, N.H.) led all players with six points on three goals and three assists, as the University of New England women's lacrosse team defeated Anna Maria College by a score of 17-4 during a The Commonwealth Coast Conference contest held at AMCAT Field on Saturday afternoon. The Nor'easters improve to 4-8 (3-5 TCCC) on the season with the win, while the AMCATS drop to 1-11 (0-8 TCCC).

Junior Katie Schebel (Ludlow, Mass.) had a strong game in a losing effort for the AMCATS, leading all players with four goals and five ground balls, while also grabbing four draw controls. In addition, Schebel collected the 100th goal of her Anna Maria career on an unassisted tally with 11 seconds remaining in the first half. Fellow junior Amanda Hevy (North Brookfield, Mass.) also played well for AMC, scooping a game-high five draw controls in the loss.

Cate led the Nor'easters with her six-point day, while senior Angel Jarmusz (Powell, Ohio) added three goals and four ground balls in the win. Freshman Cassidy Ruocco (Dover, N.H.) also had a fine game, collecting three points on two goals and one assist, while goalkeeper Samantha St. Pierre (Mechanic Falls, Maine) made six saves to earn the win in net and improve to 4-8 on the season.

Schebel got things started for the AMCATS by scoring the game's first goal after just 27 seconds of play.

However, the Nor'easters immediately answered with 14 unanswered goals, including three straight tallies by Jarmusz, to build a commanding 14-1 lead.

Schebel cut into the UNE lead with just 11 seconds remaining in the half, scoring the 100th goal of her AMC career to send the two clubs into the break with the Nor'easters still holding a sizeable 14-2 advantage.

The second half was much quieter, as both teams combined for just five goals in the period. Schebel contributed both of the goals for Anna Maria, while the Nor'easters received tallies from freshman Sarah Croston (Brunswick, Maine), sophomore Nichole Steel (Ocean City, N.J.), and freshman Angela Beaulieu (Weare, N.H.) to close out the 17-4 victory.

The Nor'easters return to action on Tuesday when they hit the road to battle Curry College at 6:30 pm, while the AMCATS don't return to action until next Saturday when the travel to face Regis College at 3:00 pm.
