Golden Bears take down AMCATS

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Senior attacker Jeanmarie Barbato (Huntington Station, NY) scored four goals, including the 200th of her career, to lead the Western New England women's lacrosse team to an 18-1 victory over Anna Maria Saturday afternoon (Apr. 2).

Barbato also added two assists as the Golden Bears remained perfect in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) with a 4-0 mark while improving to 7-3. Barbato joins Lindsey Fenton '10 and Kayte Devine '08 as the only Western New England players to score 200 goals.

Freshman midfielder Kelsey Daniels (South Windsor, CT) also contributed four goals and two assists.

Freshman midfielder Shelby Trebbe (Wilbraham, MA) was the third performer to have a six-point outing after scoring three goals with three assists.

Junior defender Veronica Miano (Southington, CT) contributed two goals while junior midfielder Katie Toomy (Northborough, MA) chipped-in with a goal and three assists.

Barbato had three goals in the opening 7:50 to help the Western New England take an early 7-0 advantage,

Senior midfielder Crystal Torres (Southbridge, MA) finally put the AMCATS on the board at the 18:17 mark before Golden Bears went on to take a commanding 10-1 advantage at halftime.

Junior midfielder Amanda Hevy (North Brookfield, MA) picked-up six ground balls and had four caused turnovers for the visitors.

Senior defender Nicole Poli (Medfield, MA) also compiled six ground balls with four caused turnovers for the hosts.
