Bison charge past AMCATS in TCCC matchup

PAXTON, Mass. (03.23.11) – Junior Krista-Jean Forand (Plymouth, Mass.) led all players with nine points as the Nichols College women's lacrosse team scored 14 first half goals to defeat Anna Maria College by the score of 18-7 during a The Commonwealth Coast Conference matchup at AMCAT Field on Wednesday night. The win evens the Bison to 1-1 (1-1 TCCC) on the year, while the AMCATS drop to 0-5 (0-3 TCCC) with the loss.

Forand led the charge for the Bison with a game-high nine points, leading all players with five assists on the night. Junior Chelsea Shaughnessy (Halifax, Mass.) added five points on three goals and two assists, while freshman Melanie Chhouy (Pepperell, Mass.) contributed four goals in the victory. Junior Jennifer Brigham earned the win between the pipes for Nichols, making a game-high nine saves to improve to 1-1 on the year.

Senior Crystal Torres (Southbridge, Mass.) had her best game of the year for the AMCATS, scoring a team-high four goals while grabbing two ground balls. Junior Katie Schebel (Ludlow, Mass.) also had a strong game, scoring four points on three goals and one assist, while also leading all players with nine draw controls. Senior Sarah Moore (Holden, Mass.) collected a game-high five ground balls on the night, while freshman Fabienne Jules (Leominster, Mass.) made five saves in a losing effort in goal for Anna Maria.

The Bison wasted no time in getting on the board, as junior Brittany Tremont (Guilford, Conn.) scored on a free-position shot just 33 seconds into the contest.

The AMCATS answered right back, tying the score on Torres' first goal of the night with 26:04 left in the first half.

The Bison then opened things up, scoring five unanswered goals to build a 6-1 advantage. Forand was a key component to the run, scoring three of the five goals, while junior Emily Yourie (Ellington, Conn.) dished-out two assists.

After Katie Schebel broke-up the Bison run with her first tally of the night, Nichols responded with a 7-0 run to blow the game open at 13-2, and never looked back.

Anna Maria finished strong, scoring the final three goals of the contest before the Bison closed out the 18-7 victory.

Both teams return to conference play this Saturday when the Bison hit the road to battle Endicott at noon, and the AMCATS host Salve Regina at 3:00 pm.
