Mustangs Gallop Past AMCATS, 2-0

Paxton, Mass. – The Mount Ida Mustangs cruised to a 2-0 win over Anna Maria College in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's soccer action at AMCAT Field on Saturday afternoon.

The Mustangs picked up their first GNAC win, improving to 2-8 (1-4 GNAC) on the season while the AMCATS (4-6-1, 0-5 GNAC) are still in search of their first conference win.

The AMCATS were once again lead by goaltender Teresa Ryan (Shrewsbury, MA), the sophomore keeper made 12 saves in the loss.  Freshmen Julianna Ceccarini (Westfield, MA) and Lindsay Phillips (Dartmouth, MA) accounted for the two AMCAT shots on goal. 

Mount Ida junior Sierra Legge (Schodack Landing, N.Y.) scored the first goal of the contest, capitalizing on feed from sophomore Maegan Hernberg (Eastford, CT) at 2:32 of the first half.  The Mustangs took a 1-0 advantage into halftime. 

Eight minutes into the second half Mustangs junior Briana Tomaselli (Warwick, R.I.) scored to give Mount Ida the 2-0 lead.  Sierra Legge assisted on Tomaselli's goal, giving her a goal and an assist on the day. 

Mustangs goalie Rebecca Beaulieu (Weare, N.H.) made two saves on the day to record her second shutout of the season. 

The Mustangs held the edge in shots on goal 14-2 and corners 5-0.

The AMCATS return to action on Wednesday afternoon at 4:30 as they host Norwich in a GNAC match-up.
