AMCATS Qualify for 2012 ECAC Tournament

Paxton, Mass. – The Anna Maria College men's basketball team has been seeded sixth in the upcoming 2012 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Men's Basketball championship.

The AMCATS' in the number six slot will travel to third seed Elms College on Wednesday night for a 6:00 pm tilt at Picknelly Arena. (Click HERE for directions to Elms)

AMC (14-14) is coming off a deep run in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) championship. In GNAC tourney play the AMCATS seeded sixth upset # 3 Johnson & Wales (64-63) and # 2 Saint Joseph's College (ME) (60-59) before bowing out to top seed Albertus Magnus in the GNAC finals.

Elms College (17-10) was seeded second in the New England Collegiate College (NECC) championship and lost the title game to Becker College.

The Blazers are 3-1 all-time against Anna Maria with the last two games in the series played in 2005. Elms won 80-76 and 100-62.

WPI earned the top seed in the tournament and have garnered a first round bye.

First Round – Wednesday, February 29

No. 7 Husson (15-12) at No. 2 Salve Regina (19-9), 7:30 p.m.

No. 6 Anna Maria (14-14) at No. 3 Elms (17-10), 5:00 p.m.

No. 5 Wentworth (16-10) at No. 4 Bridgewater State (15-11), 7:00 p.m.

Semifinals – Saturday, March 3 at WPI

No. 2/No. 7 winner vs. No. 3/No. 6 winner, 12 p.m.
No. 4/No. 5 winner vs. WPI, 2 p.m.

Championship – Sunday, March 4 at WPI

Two Semifinal Winners, 12 p.m.
