Pinsonault leads AMCATS to fifth straight win
WENHAM, MA. -- Senior guard Chris Pinsonault (Marlboro, MA) scored 30 points leading the Anna Maria AMCATS back from a 2-point halftime deficit to a 75-61 victory over Gordon at the Bennett Center on Tuesday night. The Scots took a 30-28 lead into intermission, before AMC exploded for 47 second half points to win the game going away. Gordon drops to 4-9 overall and has an 0-2 record in The Commonwealth Coast Conference. Anna Maria extended their winning streak to five games and is 8-6, 2-0 in league play. Gordon jumped out to an early 23-17 lead aided by the tough inside play of Greg Walker (Uxbridge, MA) and David Dempsey (Wallingford, CT) who combined for 21 of the Scots' 30 first half points. Gordon employed a 2-3 zone throughout the first half and managed to limit AMC to 4 of 18 shooting behind the 3-point line. In the second half, Anna Maria came out smoking from behind the arc as Pinsonault and Junior De La Hoz (Lawrence, MA) sank six out of nine shots from long range to help give Anna Maria a commanding lead. De La Hoz finished with 16 points and had six assists, all in the second half. His 3-pointer with 13:26 left in the second half, ended a 20-6 run to begin the stanza and gave Anna Maria a 48-36 lead. Gordon was rarely able to bring the margin below double figures the rest of the way. Walker led the Gordon offense, shooting 12 of 18 from the floor and putting up 26 points. David Dempsey finished with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Senior guard Austin Bentson (Branchville, NJ)had seven assists and six points, while Park Thomas (Glendale, AZ) came off the bench to sink two treys. Anthony Click (Springfield, MA) had 10 points and seven boards for AMC. The AMCATS held a 38-36 advantage on the boards and created 17 Gordon turnovers. Gordon will look to get back on the winning track when they host Eastern Nazarene at 3P.M. on Saturday. AMC will travel to face Colby-Sawyer at 1P.M. on Saturday.
