Hawks utilize inside game to defeat AMCATS

Leicester, Mass.-  Becker College and Anna Maria battled through nine lead changes, but the Hawks held on for a 81-76 win in non conference men's basketball action. In the first half the two teams exchanged the lead three times. Becker held a ten point advantage with 7:31 remaining in the half, only to watch the AMCATS tie the game at 35 apiece heading into the break. Senior guard Chris Pinsonault (Marlboro, Mass.) led all scorers with 11 first half points, shooting 50 percent from the field. In the second half the seesaw affair continued for the first 7:14 of the period as the two teams exchanged the lead six more times. After Anthony Click (Springfield, Mass.) tied the game at 49 with a layup Rajai Leggett (New Haven, Conn.) gave the Hawks the advantage for good when he rebounded his own shot, tipping it back home for the 51-49 lead. After an Anna Maria turnover Ricky Clark (New Britain, Conn.) nail a three pointer, giving the Hawks a five point lead with 12:44 remaining.  The Hawks followed the Clark three pointer with a 13-5 run, capped by a Leggett jumper. Leggett finished the game with an impressive 18 points and a career high 21 rebounds.  Terrance Favors (Boston, Mass.) scored a team high 20 points.  Trae Jacobs (Lexington Park, MD.) chipped in with ten points. Markus Wright (New Haven, Conn.) came off the bench and scored 13 points, including three blocked shots. With the win the Hawks improved their record to 4-1. Becker will host Fitchburg State on Thursday evening at 7pm. Anna Maria had three players finish in double figures, including a game high 21 points from Anthony Click. Chris Pinsonault scored 17 points, going 7 for 12 from the field. Brad Peterson (North Kingston, RI.) chipped in with 14 points in a losing effort.
