Lady AMCATS Win on Senior Night

Paxton, Mass. – The Anna Maria women's lacrosse team picked up their second win of the season with a 22-10 victory over visiting Wheelock college on Senior Night. Several records were set by the AMCATS on the night. With the win Anna Maria finishes the season with a 2-12 record while the Wildcats finish at 1-12.

In a pre-game ceremony, six players each spoke from the heart about their experience with the graduating senior class. Seniors honored were: Amelia Richard (Mashpee, Mass.), Kristina Breton (Worcester, Mass.), Mackenzie Coakley (Millbury, Mass.), Katie Schebel (Ludlow, Mass.), Alicia Savo (Mont Vernon, NH) and Amanda Hevy (North Brookfield, Mass.).

Katie Schebel amassed 200 career points and Amanda Hevy topped the 100 goal mark in the game.

Anna Maria opened up the game scoring 11 unanswered goals before letting the Wildcats get on board. Sandy Acosta scored off the opening draw control picking up a groundball in the face-off circle and went 50 yards untouched for the opening score just 19 seconds into the game. Mackenzie Coakley followed with an unassisted goal and Acosta found the back of the twine less than a minute later.

Amanda Hevy scored her first of four opening stanza goals at 26:38 from eight meters out. Her fourth goal of the half was her 100th career goal of her career scoring unassisted on a nifty spin move.

Katie Schebel had four points in the first half. At 18:55 she scored her 60th goal of the season and less than a minute later she tallied her 200th career point with an unassisted goal past Wheelock goaltender Alanna Pihl (Franconia, NH).

Joining in the scoring in the first half was senior Kristin Breton with her second goal of the season.

Wheelock scored five goals in the first half, to cut the lead to 11-5. Sophomores Jena Ghoman (Danvers, Mass.) and Katie Gavin (Manchester-by-the-Sea, Mass.) each had two tallies.

In the second half with the game in hand the AMCATS spread the wealth, junior Monica Merchant (Leicester, Mass.) tallied her first goal of the season and finished with two on the night, while teammates Amelia Richard and Rachel Kniager each added goals.

Goaltender Marlena Donjacour (San Francisco, CA) made three saves on the night to pick up her second win.
