Schebel Eclipses Two All-Time Records

BOSTON, Mass. – Senior Katie Schebel (Ludlow, Mass.) scored 5 goals to run her season total to 47 goals (52 points) en route to eclipsing her own All-Time Season Record for Goals Scored (45) and Points (49) but it wasn't enough as the Simmons' women's lacrosse team scored 16 goals in the first half to defeat the Anna Maria AMCATS 25-7 Tuesday evening in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action.

Katie Schebel scored the record breaker on a free position shots for the AMCATS in the second half. Schebel holds most major records (goals, points, groundballs, draw controls) for the Anna Maria lacrosse team, who are in just their fourth year of existence.

The Sharks scored twice in the first minute of play off goals from Stephanie Oliveri (Waltham, Mass.) and Rachel Wallace (Braintree, Mass.) to set the tone of the first half. Becca Shea (Quincy, Mass.) added an unassisted goal before Essa scored a natural hatrick to increase the Sharks lead to six.

Sandy Acosta put the AMCATS on the scoreboard with 24:35 remaining in the half, but Avery Hines (Newburyport, Mass.) added two quick goals to keep the Sharks lead at six. Megan Coffey (Wilmot Flat, N.H.) found Leanne Luke (Newton, Mass.) in the arc who beat Anna Maria goalkeeper Marlena Donjacour before Amanda Hevy buried a shot past Kelly Last (West Haven, Conn.) to cut the Sharks lead to seven.

Caitlin McNamara (Abington, Mass.) added her first of three goals with 19:42 to play off an assist by Lee Sutherland (Tuftonboro, N.H.) and Essa added two more for a ten-goal lead. Seneca Martensson (East Longmeadow, Mass.) scored off an assist by Essa before Katie Schebel scored her first of five goals with 3:30 remaining in the half.

Katie Schebel scored on two free position shots and added third goal unassisted for the AMCATS in the second half.

Sharks goalkeepers Kelly Last and Crystal Derosier (Kingston, Mass.) combined for 11 saves for the win while Donjacour stopped 12 in the lost.
