Hevy’s Handful Not Enough

Paxton, Mass. – Amanda Hevy (North Brookfield, Mass.) tied her career-high with six points on five goals and an assists but the AMCATS were defeated 17-14 by Saint Joseph College Wednesday in GNAC women's lacrosse action at AMCAT Field.

Along with Hevy's five goals, Sandy Acosta (Lawrence, Mass.) and Katie Schebel (Ludlow, Mass.) each had hat tricks while Mackenzie Coakley (Millbury, Mass.) added two goals and Kristina Breton contributed 2 points.

Diana Soucier (Avon, Conn.) and Dayna Gambino (Newington, Conn.) scored four goals apiece for Saint Joseph and Erika Leitao (Newington, Conn.) had two. Brianna Tenore (Rocky Hill, Conn.) had another solid effort in goal, making 16 saves.

Anna Maria spotted Saint Joseph's a 5-0 lead before crossing the score board with Schebel and Acosta unassisted goals. Anna Maria outscored the Blue Jays 6-2 over the last 13 minutes of the first half to cut the lead to 7-6. Hevy had a pair of 8 meter goals in the scoring onslaught.

The AMCATS came out of the gates firing in the second half scoring 5 of the first 7 goals of the half. Acosta and Hevy tallied four out of the five goals giving the AMCATS an 11-9 lead with 18 minutes remaining.

The Blue Jays tied the game at 12 at the 15 minute mark and then outscored Anna Maria 5-2 down the stretch for the win.

Anna Maria returns to action on April 10th when they travel to Emerson College for a 6pm tilt.
