CATS' Trapped by Lions

BOSTON, Mass. –Emerson Women's Lacrosse Team Tuesday night put up 13 goals in the second half to collect their fifth win of the season, topping GNAC opponent Anna Maria 20-4 at Rotch Field in Boston. Mackenzie Johnson put up six goals and four assists in the outing as the Lions improve to 5-4 overall and 1-2 in the conference. The AMCATS drop to 1-7 on the year and 0-5 in GNAC play.

The first half saw the AMCATS try to hang tough with the Lions even as EC rattled off the first four goals of the game with two coming from Mackenzie Johnson alone before Anna Maria finally scratched onto the board in the 12th minute of play to make it 4-1. The Lions got back on the attack for two more goals though with Mackenzie Johnson and Marlee Galper playing a little tag team with each one netting a goal and swapping assists to make it 6-1.

Katie Schebel for ANM kicked in next off a pass from Monica Merchant and then connected again from Kristina Breton as Alex Corrado pocketed one last goal in the waning minutes of the first half to send the teams into the break with Emerson holding a 7-3 lead.

The second half was a showcase by the Lions though as they opened up with a goal by Kayla Dowd before the AMCATS took an advantage of an EC penalty to score on a man up opportunity pulling the game to 8-4.

That was all the AMCATS had left to say on the night though as the Lions tore through 12 unanswered goals with three by Kayla Dowd in the half, three additional for Mackenzie Johnson and three for Tracie Lombardo as well as the Lions passing and defense were on seemingly their highest point of the season as well to close out the W.
