AMCATS Nipped By Blue Jays

Paxton, Mass. – Senior Mary Moroski (Worcester, Mass.) and Liz Clark once again had home runs for the AMCATS  but it wasn't enough as visiting Saint Joseph College swept host Anna Maria College in Great Northeast Athletic Conference softball action today at AMCAT Field. The Blue Jays captured game one 9-1 in six innings and the nightcap 15-4. The AMCATS fall to 0-22, 0-14 GNAC on the season while St. Joe's even their record at 12-12, 9-5 GNAC.

GAME 1 - Anna Maria 1 Saint Joseph 9

Blue Jays pitcher Kristina Torres tossed a two-hitter, including 8 strikeouts, in game one. AMC's Nichole Lowe (Saugus, Mass.) was 1-for-2 with a run scored and a stolen base while Elizabeth Clark (Dover, NH) had a single and RBI.

The AMCATS were able to cross the plate first in the bottom of the first inning. Lowe led off the line-up with single to right field. Lowe was on third, courtesy of a stolen base and a passed ball, when Clark ripped a single to right field to score Lowe.

Saint Joseph scored 6 runs in the top of the second inning after two outs capitalizing on costly errors in the field by Anna Maria. Junior Stephanie Valerio, Emily Hummel and Sarah Miller each delivered RBI singles in the frame.

Saint Joe's added two more runs in the second to make the game 8-1, Valerio added another RBI on a single to center field.

In the top of the sixth, Ashley Gall homered to center field for the mercy-rule 9-1 final.

GAME 2 : Anna Maria 4 Saint Joseph 15

Mary Moroski, Nichole Lowe and Liz Clark each went 1-for-3 with an RBI while Melissa Stedman (Mason, NH) had a double and a run scored. Freshman Alison Villanis (Wakefield, RI) notched her first collegiate hit with a single to right field.

The AMCATS scored their first run in the bottom of the third. Melissa Stedman scored on a Lowe single through the left side.

Liz Clark belted her second home of the season in the bottom of the fourth inning, the freshman catcher tagged a fastball over the left center fence.  Teammate Moroski ripped her 24th career homerun in the bottom of the fifth inning.

The AMCATS return to action on Monday when they host Lasell College in a GNAC double header at 3:30 pm.
