Moroski Belts HR, AMCATS drop DH to Rams

Paxton, Mass. – Senior Mary Moroski (Worcester, Mass.) was 3-for-5 with a 3-run home run and 4 RBI's on the day but it wasn't enough as the AMCATS were swept on the diamond by Suffolk University in Great Northeast Athletic Conference softball action today on AMCAT field.

Suffolk took game one 14-4 in six innings and game two 10-0 in five innings. With the wins Suffolk improves to 6-8 and 2-4 in the GNAC while the AMCATS are still in search of their first win with a record of 0-14 (0-6 GNAC) on the season.

GAME 1 - Anna Maria 4 Suffolk 14

Anna Maria took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning after junior Tabitha Ruggeri (Sturbridge, Mass.) led of the at-bats with a double, Ruggeri scored on an RBI single by Moroski. After a scoreless second inning Suffolk put 4 runs on the board in the top of the third inning. Freshman Nicole Rosa (Wallingford, Conn.) doubled to centerfield for 2 RBI and came home on an Erin McAndrews (Marblehead, Mass.) triple. Senior Karina Bolster (Carlise, PA) scored McAndrews with a sacrifice fly.

Trailing 4-1 in the bottom of the third, Moroski stepped to the plate with two on base and delivered her 21st career home run to left center field to knot the ball game at 4-all.

The Rams battled back in the top of the fourth scoring four more runs to take an 8-4 advantage.  Liz Galvin (Medway, Mass), Rosa and McAndrews each delivered RBI singles in the inning. Suffolk added 2 runs in the fifth and four more runs in the sixth for the 14-4 win.

Nicole Rosa finished the day going 3-for-5 with 4 RBI, junior Mandi Thornton picked up 3 RBI in the win and pitchers Alicia Gonnella (Bridgewater, NJ) and Sarah Chasse (Salem, Mass.) combined for seven strikeouts in the win.

Tabitha Ruggeri and freshman Cristina Turley (Waterford, Conn.) each had two hits for the AMCATS while pitcher Nicole Lowe had two strikeouts on the day.

GAME 2 - Anna Maria 0 Suffolk 10

Freshman Liz Clark (Dover, NH) belted two double for the only hits of the day for the AMCATS as Suffolk scored in each of their at-bats to cruise to the 10-0 win.

Nikki Cignarella (Norwood, Mass.) doubled in two runs and scored on a wild pitch in the top of the first inning to give the Rams a 3-0 lead. They added two more runs on a Galvin RBI single and an AMCAT error for a 5-0 lead.

The Rams would add a single run in the third on a Samantha McGilvary (Brighton, Mass.) RBI single and two runs in each of the 4th and 5th inning.

Cignarella finished the game going 2-for-2 with three RBI's, while Sarah Chasse added two RBI's.

The AMCATS return to action on Friday when the travel to Rivier for a GNAC match-up starting at 4:00pm.
