Lady AMCATS Swept in FLA

Minneola, Fla. – The Anna Maria College softball team opened up their 2012 campaign with two losses to University of Scranton and Oswego State in spring break action at the Minneola Athletic Complex on Monday afternoon. In the season opener the AMCATS were downed by Scranton 13-0 and dropped a 19-0 decision to Oswego in the nightcap.

GAME 1 – Scranton 13 Anna Maria 0

Scranton sprinted out of the blocks in the top of the first inning capitalizing on the jitters of the AMCATS defense scoring nine runs on five hits. In the bottom of the inning junior Tabitha Ruggeri (Sturbridge, Mass.) collected the first AMC hit on the season with a seeing-eye single up the middle.

Scranton picked up single runs in the second and third inning increasing their lead to 11-0. Senior Marissa McCann (Webster, Mass.) picked up the second hit of the game for Anna Maria with one out in the bottom of the 3rd inning but was erased from the base paths by a fielder's choice.

Freshman Nichole Lowe (Saugus, Mass.) took the loss for the AMCATS surrendering nine earned runs with one strikeout and 5 walks.

GAME 2 – Oswego State 19 Anna Maria 0

The Lady AMCATS could only muster two hits against a tough Oswego State pitching tandem. Anna Maria held OSU scoreless in the first inning and only surrendered 2 runs to the potent lineup but Oswego put across 6 runs in the 3rd and 11 runs in the 4th.

Freshman Cristina Turley (Waterford, Conn.) and Elizabeth Clark (Dover, NH) both picked up their first collegiate hits in the game.

Nichole Lowe went 2.1 innings for AMC and freshman Justine Lalonde (Shirley, NY) pitched the final 1.2 innings picking up one strikeout.
