(Nashua, NH)

Powered by sophomore slugger Catherine Roy (Dracut, MA), the Rivier College Softball team sailed to two wins over GNAC newcomer Anna Maria College this afternoon up at Raider Diamond.

Game One: Rivier 11, Anna Maria 2 (Final/5 innings)

Sophomore Lauren Beatty pitched 5 solid innings as the Raiders took game one by an 11-2 final. Beatty allowed the AMACTS to score just 2 runs on 3 hits while striking out 7. She also did the job at the dish as she went 1-for-2 with 2 RBI and 2 runs scored.

Roy was unstoppable at the dish as she was 2-for-2 with 2 RBI and a RBI. Sophomore Nicole Peacock (Warwick, RI) went 2-for-4 while junior Amanda Thornton (Hanover, MA) had a 2-for-3 effort which included a RBI in the win.

Elizabeth Clark's two run double in the third accounted for all of the AMCATS runs in the ballgame. Freshman Nichole Lowe took the loss on the mound for Anna Maria.

Game Two: Rivier 9, Anna Maria 0 (Final/5 innings)

Roy and junior Marissa Mercier (North Smithfield, RI) had back-to-back jacks in the middle of a 7 run 2nd inning as Rivier finished the doubleheader sweep with a 9-0 victory.

With the bases loaded and two runs already across in the 2nd, Roy lined an offering just over the left field fence for a Grand Slam which made it 8-0 in favor of Rivier. Mercier then followed that with a towering home run to left center that landed halfway up the trees. Roy finished the game going 2-for-3 with 5 RBI and Mercier was 1-for-3 with a RBI.

Junior Nadjeska Reynolds (Hamden, CT) retired the first 12 batters she faced as she spun a complete game one hitter. The lone AMCAT hit came in the 5th inning when Clark lined one over the leaping second basemen and into right-center. Reynolds struck out 7 as she improves to 5-2 on the season.

Anna Maria College (0-16 overall, 0-8 GNAC) will host GNAC opponent Saint Joseph's College of Maine in their next contest which is also scheduled for tomorrow afternoon.
