Lady AMCATS Swept by St. Joe's

Paxton, Mass. – Anna Maria College softball was swept by Saint Joseph's College (ME) in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action today at AMCAT field. St. Joe's took game one by a score of 9-0 and game two, 23-1. With the wins the Monks improve to 12-4, 7-1 GNAC while the AMCATS see their record fall to 0-18, 0-10 GNAC.

GAME 1

After a scoreless first inning, St. Joe's crossed the plate first. Shortstop Lindsay Moore (Barrington, NH) led off with a home run off the left field foul pole for the 1-0 lead. With two out Kayla Vannah (Waldoboro, ME) delivered an RBI double down the left field line to score Maria Labbe (Lewiston, ME), Vannah scored later in the inning on a wild pitch for a 3-0 lead.

The Monks picked up four more runs in the top of the third, Theresa Hendrix (Scarborough, ME) started the scoring with an RBI single to center field, the next batter Maria Labbe (Lewiston, ME) calmly doubled to right center driving in Moore and then Maddie Kluna (Standish, ME) stepped to the plate to deliver a RBI single to left field.

The Monks would add one more in the third and two more runs in the fourth for the win.

Anna Maria's only hit came off the bat of senior Mary Moroski (Worcester, Mass.) when she singled to center field in the games first inning. Pitcher Nichole Lowe (Saugus, Mass.) had two strikeouts in the loss.

GAME 2

The Monks belted 21 hits en route to a 23-0 win in game two. Left Fielder Theresa Hendrix led the offensive surge going 3-for-5 at the plate with a grand slam and 7 RBI's. Center fielder Emily Leverone (Hampton, NH) also had a big day going 2-for-3 with 5 RBI's and a home run while Maria Labbe also hit one out of the park.

Anna Maria only was able to muster two hits in the loss. Mary Moroski doubled in the first inning with one out but the AMCATS couldn't get her across the plate while Alicia Bonneau (Worcester, Mass.) singled to center field in the bottom of the fifth.

Anna Maria returns to action tomorrow when they travel to Mount Ida for a doubleheader starting at 1:00pm.
