MEN’S SOCCER: Anna Maria upends Rivier in overtime

The Basics:

-Score: Anna Maria College 3, Rivier University 2 (OT)

-Records: Anna Maria (2-13-1, 1-9-0 GNAC), Rivier (2-13-1, 0-9-1 GNAC)

-Location: Nashua, N.H. (Raider Field)

- The Lead: Freshman Nick Lawrence (Attleboro, Mass.) scored two goals, including a tying goal with a minute remaining in regulation and the golden goal in the 10th minute of overtime, as Anna Maria College edged Rivier University, 3-2 in the final Great Northeast Athletic Conference men's soccer match for both teams Saturday afternoon at Raider Field.

How It Happened:

-After a scoreless first half, the Raiders got on the board in the 64th minute. Junior Matt Wolski (Tyngsboro, Mass.) headed home his first of the season off a free kick from senior Ben Noelk (Georgetown, Mass.). Anna Maria would find the equalizer in the 77th minute when senior Derrick Casey (Worcester, Mass.) knocked home a corner kick from freshman Connor Francis (Colchester, Conn.).

-With time winding down, Raider freshman Pedro Lopez (Methuen, Mass.) sent a perfect through ball to classmate Prince Moye (Lowell, Mass.) who then chipped the ball over the goalkeeper's head to give Rivier what seemed like the game-winner. However a foul in the box just 20 seconds later allowed Lawrence to capitalize on a penalty kick to force the overtime period.

-Lawrence would then end the game with 30 seconds left in the first overtime as he kicked home a pass from Casey into the lower left corner.

-Sophomore keeper Collin Deyarmin (Raymond, N.H.) made five saves on eight chances for Rivier while the duo of freshman Jeffre Donahue (Rockland, Mass.) and junior Mark Robinshaw (Ashford, Conn.) combined for two saves on four shots.

Up Next:

-Rivier will close out the 2017 season on Tuesday evening with a non-conference tilt at New England College. Anna Maria will travel to WPI Sunday afternoon to finish out its 2017 campaign.
