Men's Lacrosse: Falcons Clip AMCATS, 10-6

The Albertus Magnus men's lacrosse team defeated Anna Maria College 10-6 Wednesday afternoon at Celentano Field in New Haven, Conn. The Falcons victory is the first Great Northeast Athletic Conference  (GNAC) victory in program history. The Falcons improve to 2-3 overall and 1-2 in the conference and the AMCATS fall to 1-7 on the season and 1-2 in the conference.

Greg Buck (Berlin, Conn.) started the Falcons off and continued his hot streak just three minutes into the game as he received a pass from Mike Choiniere (Bethany, Conn.) from behind the cage. Buck scored three on the day totaling 19 goals in the past three contests.

The AMCATS attack was powered by freshman David Poirier for much of the first few quarters. Poirier fired seven of his nine shots of the contest in the first half of play. Poirier finally found the back of the net with 4:03 left in the first quarter to bring the score to 2-1.

Choiniere netted two in the second quarter, one of them coming from a beautiful pass from freshman Brennan Moore (Meriden, Conn.).

At the end of the first half the Falcons led 5-3. Both teams fired 18 shots and just edged out the AMCATS in ground balls 14-13.

The Falcons started to catch fire late into the third quarter as they scored three goals in five minutes. Adam Earl (Hamden, Conn.) took matters into his own hands as he picked up two ground balls, cleared the ball himself, beat the defenders, and fired the ball into the net. These two goals were his only two of the night.

The final score ended 10-6 in favor of the Falcons. The AMCATS edged out the Falcons in ground balls 34-31 and the Falcons just beat out the AMCATS in total shots 33-31.

Brandon Scicchitano (Norwalk, Conn.) earned his second victory as he blocked 9 shots.

The AMCATS return to action on Saturday afternoon when they travel to Emmanuel for a 12:00pm contest.
