Men’s Lacrosse Notches First Win of Season

Paxton, Mass. – The Anna Maria College men's lacrosse team received four goals each from senior Rod Henriques (Saugus, Mass.) and sophomore Lucas Stralka (East Greenwich, RI) en route to a 11-5 victory over Daniel Webster College in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action today at AMCAT Field.

With the win, the first for head coach Andrew Dalton, the AMCATS move to 1-4, while the Eagles start the season 0-1.

Freshman David Poirier (Agawam, Mass.), junior Jamison Crowley (Southington, Conn.) and senior Rex Wall (Osterville, Mass.) each notched goals in the game and Henriques added two assists for a six point day.

The Eagles were led by freshman David Downie's (Merrimack, N.H.)  hat trick. Junior Dan Knupfer (Corfu, NY) and sophomore Sean Hamilton (Brookline, NH) added single strikes for DWC.

Knupfer put Daniel Webster up 1-0 just over a minute into the game. Stralka would tally the equalizer for AMC less than two minutes later. Henriques would pot a pair of unassisted scores fifty seconds apart to push the AMCAT lead to 3-1. Each team added a goal and after one quarter Anna Maria held a 4-2 advantage.

AMC outscored the Eagles 5-1 in the second frame. Henriques, Stralka, Crowley and Poirier would tip the twine before Daniel Webster could answer with a Hamilton goal. Stralka would add his second goal of the period with one tick remaining in the half. Anna Maria led 9-3 at intermission.

Daniel Webster scored the only goal in the third period to cut the lead to 9-4 after three complete.

Stralka and Henriques each posted their fourth goals of the game in the last period and DWC would add a late score for the 11-5 final.

Freshman Franco Francioso (Walpole, Mass.) earned his first collegiate victory stopping 12 shots on the afternoon, his counterpart Curtis Larade (Merrimack, NH) had 18 saves in the loss.

Anna Maria returns to action on Wednesday afternoon when they host Saint Joseph's College at 4:00 p.m. Daniel Webster will be action the same day, heading to Becker College for a 4:00 p.m. tilt.
