Monks Outlast AMCATS in 5 OT

Paxton, Mass. – Saint Joseph's College (ME) senior Andrew Hamill (Wolfeboro, NH) scored the game-winning goal with thirty-six seconds remaining in the fifth overtime as the Monks squeaked by Anna Maria College 5-4 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference men's lacrosse action on Wednesday afternoon at AMCAT field.

With the win the Monks improve to 3-1, 2-0 GNAC while the AMCATS slip to 1-5, 1-1 GNAC.

Anna Maria sophomore Lucas Stralka (East Greenwich, RI) notched a pair of goals and an assist, Rod Henriques (Saugus, Mass.) chipped in a goal and a helper, while Rex Wall (Osterville, Mass.) potted his fourth of the season.

Hamill finished with a hat trick for Saint Joseph's, while Dalton Eldridge (South Gardiner, Maine) and Max Meserve (Kennebunk, Maine) each tipped the twine.

Trailing 1-0 entering the second stanza, AMC's Stralka found an open Henriques for a man-up score at the 14:48 mark to level the score at 1-1. Monks' Eldridge and AMCAT senior Rex Wall traded goals and the teams were deadlocked 2-2 at intermission.

Max Meserve scored the only tally in the third period, beating Anna Maria's goaltender Franco Francioso (Walpole, Mass.) for the extra-man goal just 50 seconds into the string.

Lucas Stralka added a pair of goals, just 21 seconds apart, for Anna Maria in the fourth quarter for their first lead of the day, 4-3. Hamill would tie the match with 34 seconds remaining in regulation setting up his fifth overtime heroics.

Francioso finished the game with 18 saves, while his counterpart Ethan Rettew (Ephrata, PA) had nine saves in the victory.

Anna Maria returns to action on Saturday afternoon when the travel to Massachusetts Maritime Academy for a 1:00 p.m. tilt. The Monks will visit Lasell on the same day.
