Men’s Lacrosse: AMCATS Stopped By Bison

DUDLEY, Mass. – Sophomore Brian Hancock (Groton, Mass.) recorded his third-career hat trick as the Nichols College men's lacrosse team opened the 2014 campaign with a resounding 17-3 win over Anna Maria College Wednesday afternoon in non-conference action at Vendetti Field.

Sophomore Lucas Stralka (East Greenwich, R.I.) scored three unassisted markers for the AMCATS (0-3).

Junior Corey Davis (Billerica, Mass.)  (2-3-5) and sophomore Anthony Verville (Portland, Maine) (3-2-5) each tallied five points while senior Zac Smith (Wilbraham, Mass.) registered four points (3-1-4) as the Bison (1-0) opened their season with a win for the first time since 2011.

Nichols led 6-0 after one quarter of play and 11-1 at halftime behind three goals from Hancock and two from both Verville and senior Brian Girard (Norwood, Mass.). Davis picked up three assists in the opening half.

Freshman Matt Feigenblat (Shelton, Conn.) scored the only goal of the third quarter to extend the Bison's lead to 12-1 before Verville and Smith each polished off their hat tricks in the final stanza. Feigenblat also netted his second of the afternoon while Stralka scored the final two goals of the game – his fifth and sixth markers of the season.

The Bison outshot the AMCATS 52-17. Freshman Peter Zygaldo (Hanover, N.H.) recorded three saves to earn his first collegiate win. Sophomore Joseph Morris (Medford, Mass.) stopped 13 saves for Anna Maria.

Nichols returns to action on Saturday with a 2:00 p.m. contest against Rivier. Anna Maria travels to Regis (MA) next Wednesday for a 6:00 p.m. contest.
