AMCATS Win Game Two Against Knights to Sweep the Day

Auburndale, Mass – Game tow was another impressive outing for the AMCATS. Behind a great outing on the mound and another explosive game at the plate, the 'Cats finished off the day with their second win, 9-6, over the Knights.

For the AMCATS, got home runs from freshmen Cape Cod duo Kino Gray (Brewster, Mass) and Jason Shell (Sandwich, Mass). Shell was three-for-four in the game with three runs batted in. Gray finished the game two-for-three with two RBI. Freshman Noah Holland (Sandwich, Mass) added a three hit effort, including a double while also driving in two runs. On the mound for the 'Cats was Liam Cunningham (Northbridge, Mass) who helped save his team's bullpen by pitching a complete game, seven innings. Cunningham allowed seven hits in the game and three runs but he struck out eleven batters and didn't walk anyone.

The Knights had three more hits in game two than they had in game one but the run production didn't follow suit. Leading the way for Martin Luther, Matt Baehman (Neenah, Wisc) had two hits in the game, one of which was a double. Karl Kuschel (Mukwonga, Wisc) and Tyler Roecker (Waukesha, Wisc) each had one hit in the game but they were triples and drove in two of the three runs the Knights scored in the game. Freshman Joey Behm (Jackson, Wisc) started the game on the hill for Martin Luther. Behm pitched five innings, allowing 11 hits and six runs, though he did strike out 11 AMCATS in the effort. Sophmore Noah Panzer (Marshfield, Wisc) pitched two innings in relief of Behm allowing the other three 'Cats runs to score on three hits.

As it was in the first game, the AMCATS scored the first runs of the game in the third inning. The first was scored by was of a Tanner Jakola (Leominster, Mass) single which scored Shell. Jakola would score the next run on a Holland single. Gray would keep the party going in the third when he hit his home run to score himself and Holland making it 4-0 Anna Maria.

In the top of the fourth the 'Cats scored their fifth run when Shell singled to score Adam Twitchell (Shrewsbury, Mass). The Knights would answer in the bottom of the inning when Kuschel tripled to plate one and get the score back to 5-1.

AMC would plate another run in the 5th on a Holland double which scored Jake Crevier (Ware, Mass) to extend their lead back out to five runs.

The AMCATS would get their third home run of the day, second of the game, in the sixth when Shell hit his two run dinger scoring himself and Twitchell. The 'Cats would get a scare in the bottom of the sixth when the Knights would get their offense running with a Roecker triple which scored two with a little help from a defensive miscue by the AMCATS to get the score to 8-3.

In the seventh, the AMCATS would put the preverbal nail in the coffin scoring another run on a Jeff Falk (Enfield, Conn) double, scoring Holland to give them the 9-3 win and a sweep of the day.

The Win improves Anna Maria's record to 2-3 on the year. The AMCATS will have the next two days off before taking on SUNY Poly at 5pm on Wednesday evening in Auburndale, Florida.
