Baseball Suffers Pair of Losses to Falcons

Worcester, Mass.-- The Anna Maria College baseball team dropped a pair of games with the Falcons of Albertus Magnus College on Saturday afternoon at the Granger Field Complex at Clark University. The Falcons took an 11-3 win in game one and a 16-3 win in game two. The AMCATS fall to 7-19 overall and 0-4 in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) while the Falcons improve their record to 5-11 overall and kick start GNAC play, 2-0.

GAME ONE

Albertus Magnus started off scoring with four hits that resulted in two first inning runs to take an early 2-0 lead. The AMCATS responded with a run of their own in the bottom of the first inning. Matt Leahey (Rutland, Mass.) recorded an RBI double that scored Joseph Fahey (Auburn, Mass.) (2-1).

The Falcons extended their lead to 6-1 following a grand slam from freshman, Brandon Clark in the top of the second inning. They added one run in the top of the third and the top of the fifth before Anna Maria notched their second run in the bottom of the inning as Matt Elliot (Attleboro, Mass.) crossed home plate after a visiting team error (8-2).

The Falcons notched three more runs in the seventh inning to take a nine run lead. The AMCATS never gave up the fight as they were able to notch one more run in the last inning with an RBI double from Trevor Brown (Gardner, Mass.) to left center field. The Falcons took the ultimate 11-3 victory.

Tyriq Harris, Adam Olszyk and Mike Browne all went two for three with one RBI each while Clark recorded a team high four RBIs to lift the visitors to victory. Leahey went one for two with an RBI in the loss and Trevor Brown went one for four with an RBI.

Dan Zarnik earned the win on the mound for Albertus Magnus scattering six hits, three runs, and seven strikeouts over seven innings. 

GAME TWO

Falcon's Christian Bradley notched a two RBI single to lead the visitors in a six hit, seven run effort in the first inning of game two. They tallied nine more runs over the next five innings before Anna Maria was able to get on the board in the bottom of the sixth inning as Dylan Carissimo (Tampa, Fla.) homered over the left field fence giving the AMCATS one run (16-1).

The AMCATS held Albertus Magnus to no runs in the top of the seventh inning. This was the visitors only scoreless inning of the game. Anna Maria tallied two more runs in the bottom of the seventh with RBIs from Fahey and Jacob Nichols (Auburn, Mass.).

Bradley led the visitors at the plate going two-for-three at the plate with four RBIs. Following that lead, Justin Rodriguez went two-for-three with two RBIs. Seven other Falcon's contributed RBIs en route to the 16-3 victory.

Olszyk earned the win for Albertus Magnus pitching six innings and giving up just one hit and one run. He recorded nine strikeouts.

The AMCATS travel to Lasell College tomorrow for a GNAC doubleheader beginning at 5:00 p.m. The Falcons host Norwich for a conference doubleheader tomorrow at West Haven high school; first pitch is at 2:00 p.m.
