Rams Charge to 80-56 Victory Over AMCATS

FRAMINGHAM, Mass.—The Anna Maria College women's basketball team fell to the Rams of Framingham State University 80-56 in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon.

The loss drops the AMCATS to 5-34 overall, while the win boosts the Rams to 6-3.
 

AMCAT LEADERS

Anna Maria saw 21 points from junior guard Nicole Mareiro (Acushnet, Mass.) and 12 points from classmate Christina Guavin (Dudley, Mass). Senior Samantha Parker (Athol, Mass.) added 10 points off the bench and tallied a team-high eight rebounds in just 23 minutes of action.
 

FSU LEADERS

The Rams were led by Raegan Mulherin with a game-high 22 points, followed by Alycia Rachliffe with 15 points and Monta Connolly with 14 points. Tiphani Harris added 10 points off the bench, while Rackliffe posted a game-high 13 rebounds.
 

HOW IT HAPPENED

Both teams played an even first two periods. Anna Maria took a 17-15 lead into the second quarter and the teams went into the break tied at 32. After trading baskets at the start the second half the Rams went on a 16-3 run spanning over six minutes of the third period to gain control of the game.
 

An AMCATS bucket with just under a minute remaining in the third quarter would cut the lead to 9 but that is as close as they would come for the remainder of the game.

 

FINAL COMPARISONS

FSU finished with 27 field goals in 72 attempts (37.5 percent), including a 5-for-24 effort (20.8 percent) from three-point range. Anna Maria finished 5-for-18 (27.8 percent) from behind the arc and finished with 20 from 57 attempts in field goal range (35.1 percent).
 
The AMCATS went 11-16 at the free throw line while the Rams went 21-29 (72.4 percent). FSU held a 53-33 advantage in rebounds and held the largest lead of the game with 26 points.
 

WHAT'S NEXT

Anna Maria travels to nearby Clark University on Wednesday, December 30th for the Holiday Tournament as they first take on Southern Maine at 6:00 p.m., followed by a rematch with the Rams of Framingham State on Thursday.
