Women's Basketball Falls to Wesleyan, 76-51

MIDDLETOWN, CONN.--The Anna Maria women's basketball team dropped a 76-51 decision to Wesleyan University on Friday evening in the first day of action at the Courtyard by Marrriott Tournament hosted by Wesleyan. 

 The loss snaps a three-game winning streak for the AMCATS, who now sit at 5-2, while Wesleyan improves to 4-1 with the win. 

AMCAT LEADERS 

Anna Maria was paced by Deja Taitt (Cambia Heights, N.Y.) with 20 points, six rebounds and three assists. Christina Gauvin (Dudley, Mass.) added 10 points.

 

WESLEYAN LEADERS

Wesleyan saw three players score in double figures,  led by T. Berger with a game-high 24 points. K. Williams added 17 points , followed by M. Vitals with 17. 

HOW IT HAPPENED 

Wesleyan controlled the game from the opening basket and held a nine point advantage at the end of the first quarter. The hosts would extend their lead to 13 points at halftime, 37-24. 

Wesleyan broke away in the second half, using a 22-14 point differential in the third quarter to open a 21-point margin. Wesleyan led by as many as 28 points in the fourth quarter.

Anna Maria takes on RPI on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. in day two of action at the Courtyard by Marriott tournament.
