Cadets March to 14-3 win against Men's Lacrosse

PAXTON, Mass.—Freshman Andrew Marcotte (Plainville, Mass.) of the Anna Maria College men's lacrosse team scored twice, netting the first two goals of his collegiate career, in the AMCATS' 14-3 loss to the Cadets of Norwich University in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) opener for both teams.

The win boosts the Cadets to 1-1, while the AMCATS fall to 0-3.

Freshman Jonathan McDonald (Marlborough, Mass.) also scored his first collegiate goal with 2:45 left to play in the second quarter. Anna Maria's third goal, scored by Marcotte, was assisted by junior Edward Jankowski (Billerica, Mass.).

Senior Seth Fuller (Wheaton, Mass.) led Norwich with a game-high five goals. Freshman Ian Kennedy (Gloucester, Mass.) added three goals, while junior Matt Flaherty (Portland, Maine) chipped in with two goals and a game-high three assists.

The AMCATS trailed 3-1 after the first quarter and 8-2 after the second. The Cadets scored five unanswered goals in the third quarter to take a healthy lead before Anna Maria scored their final goal in the fourth quarter.

AMCAT junior goaltender Joseph Morris (Medford, Mass.) tallied 13 saves in net for the AMCATS, while Norwich netminder Chris Gersh (Hudson, N.H.) made six saves to earn his first win of the season.

Anna Maria junior Alex Rezendes (Nantucket, Mass.) tallied a game-high five ground balls, while Jankowski aided the defense with a team-best three caused turnovers. Norwich saw four ground balls from Jon French (Bow, N.H.) and Matt Thresher (Somers, Conn.).

Norwich senior face-off specialist Andrew Bracy (Carthage, N.Y.) won 13 of 16 attempts, while French added four wins.

The AMCATS will return to action on Saturday when they travel to St. Joseph's (Maine) for a 12:30 p.m. GNAC matchup.
