Falcons Fly to Victory against AMCAT Lacrosse

PAXTON, Mass.—The Anna Maria College men's team suffered a 25-3 loss to the Falcons of Albertus Magnus College on Tuesday evening in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action.

The AMCATS saw two goals by Andrew Marcotte (Plainville, Mass.) and a goal by Alex Rezendes (Nantucket, Mass.). Jonathan McDonald (Marlborough, Mass.) tallied an assist on the day.

The Falcons saw a game-high 10 goals and two assists by junior attacker Mike Choiniere (Bethany, Conn.). Sophomore Greg Buck (Berlin, Conn.) chipped in with six goals and three assists while sophomore midfielder Justin Bennet (Fairfield, Conn.) added three goals and three assists.

The Falcons held a 4-0 lead after the first quarter and added seven unanswered second-half goals to take an 11-0 halftime lead.

Anna Maria scored the first goal of the second half on a man-up advantage, but Albertus Magnus held a 7-3 scoring edge in the third frame.

Albertus Magnus held a 53-40 advantage in shots and a 60-32 edge in ground balls. Greg Shawinsky (Trumbull, Conn.) posted a game-high 14 ground balls and also won 19 of the 29 face-offs he took on the day.

Anna Maria saw seven ground balls from senior Dennis Tran (Worcester, Mass.).

AMCAT goaltender Zachary Sylvia (Tiverton, R.I.) made 17 saves in the loss, while Falcons netminder Jack Kerner (Merrick, N.Y.) made 13 saves in the win.

Anna Maria will return to action on Saturday for the final game of 2015, a 1:00 p.m. GNAC matchup against the defending league champions, Emmanuel College. A brief senior day ceremony will precede the opening face-off.
