Hagan, Rezendes Score in Lacrosse Season Opener

WORCESTER, Mass.—The Anna Maria College men's lacrosse team suffered a 20-2 setback in its season opener against UMass Boston on Tuesday afternoon. The game was played at the College of the Holy Cross.

The AMCATS received goals by junior Alex Rezendes (Nantucket, Mass.) and freshman Tyler Hagan (Charlton, Mass.). Hagan's goal, the first of his collegiate career, was assisted by senior captain Dennis Tran (Worcester, Mass.).

The Beacons were led by Michael Kennedy with four goals and four assists. Ryan McGoff tallied a game-high five goals, while midfielder Nick Weiss added a goal and five assists. Donny Delpha aided UMass Boston's offense with three goals and an assist.

UMass Boston struck early as they needed just 1:31 for Kennedy to tally his first goal of the game. By the end of the first quarter, the Beacons held a 7-0 lead. Rezendes opened the second quarter with his score, and Hagan netted his in the 11th minute of the fourth quarter.

Anna Maria goaltender Joseph Morris (Medford, Mass.) totaled 16 saves for the AMCATS. UMass Boston's Craig Frehill earned the start and the win, tallying four saves in 30 minutes of action before giving way to AJ Collette, who also made four stops.

Junior defender Edward Jankowski (Billerica, Mass.) tallied a game-high eight ground galls for Anna Maria, while sophomore Kendal Zeno (Middlesex, Vt.) chipped in with five.

The AMCATS are idle for over a week, returning to action for a 1:00 p.m. non-conference game at Nichols College on Saturday, March 7.
