Buccaneers Sail to 15-6 Win against Men's Lacrosse

PAXTON, Mass.—The Anna Maria College men's lacrosse team suffered a 15-6 loss to the Buccaneers of the Massachusetts Maritime Academy on Saturday afternoon in non-conference action.

With the loss, the AMCATS fall to 1-5 on the season, while the Buccaneers snap a two-game losing streak to improve to 5-2.

The AMCATS were led offensively by Michael Rodriguez (Cranston, R.I.) with two goals. Alex Rezendes (Nantucket, Mass.), Andrew Marcotte (Plainville, Mass.), Nathan Batallas (Templeton, Mass.), and Jonathan McDonald (Marlborough, Mass.) all added single tallies.

Massachusetts Maritime saw a game-high three goals from Steven Anderson (Crownsville, Md.). Kevin Collins (Hampden, Mass.) added two goals and two assists, while Ryan McNeill (Burlington, Mass.) also scored twice.

The Buccaneers scored the first two goals of the game, as Steven Anderson and Joseph Landy netted goal at the 13:51 and 11:43 marks, respectively. Over four minutes later the AMCATS cut MMA's lead to one goal, as Rodriguez netted his first goal of the day at the 7:20 mark. The Buccaneers rounded out the first quarter with back-to-back goals at 6:47 and 3:22 to take a 4-1 lead into the second quarter.

Massachusetts Maritime had a productive second frame, as they outscored the AMCATS 8-1, led by Collins with two goals in the stretch. Rodriguez added his second goal of the game with 5:08 left to play in the half.

The AMCATS opened the third quarter strong, as Batallas scooped the ground ball off the opening face-off and streaked to the net for his lone tally of the game.  Anna Maria matched MMA goal-for-goal in the third quarter, as each team finished the frame with two apiece.

Anna Maria held a 2-1 scoring advantage in the final quarter, as Rezendes and Marcotte bookended the Buccaneer's lone goal, scored by Patrick Kearney (Scituate, Mass.).

Junior goaltender Joseph Morris (Methuen, Mass.) totaled 18 saves in net for the AMCATS. James Klose (Ellicott City, Md.) earned the win in net for the Buccaneers and totaled two saves in 30 minutes of action. Jacob Brennan (North Reading, Mass.) tallied five saves in 20:22 of action before giving way to Conor Sherman (Ocean Springs, Miss.), who was not forced to make a save in the final 9:38 of the game.

Batallas totaled a game-high 11 ground balls on the afternoon while tallying a team-high five caused-turnovers. MMA's Nick Foley (Kingston, Mass.) totaled seven ground balls for the Buccaneers and also won 13-of-23 face-off attempts.

The AMCATS will return to action on Tuesday for a 5:00 p.m. non-conference home game against the Pride of Regis College. MMA will travel to Salem State on Tuesday for a 7:00 p.m. non-conference game.
