Acosta Tallies in Last Collegiate Game

BOSTON, Mass. – The Emmanuel College Women's Lacrosse Team celebrated the Saints' regular season finale and senior day with an 18-1 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) win over Anna Maria College on Sunday evening.  The GNAC contest played on Roberto Clemente Field was the last home game for Emmanuel seniors Hillary Carr (Narragansett, R.I.), Jessica Lucas (Stoneham, Mass.) and Madeline Leahy (Cohasset, Mass.).

The Saints dominated play throughout the game, scoring ten goals in the opening nineteen minutes of play, to keep the clock running for the remainder of regulation.  Six players scored a pair of goals each for the host Saints, including Sarah Wooten (Berlin, Md.), Sarah Higgins (Groveland, Mass.), Kristen Tuleja (Mansfield, Mass.), Christina Vickers (Medford, Mass.), Monica Burdick (Pawcatuck, Conn.) and Alexia Basile (West Hartford, Conn.).

Senior captain Madeline Leahy, who will graduate in May as the program's all-time leader in goals, assists and total points, scored once and dished out two assists in the win.  Basile also dished out a pair of assists, while Wooten added four assists to her two goals for six total points on the night.

Emma Mugera (Andover, Mass.), Johnna Fieldman (Wilmington, Del.) Megan Mattox (Upton, Mass.), Jessica Lucas and Libby Short (Wakefield, R.I.) all scored their first goals of the season in the win.  The goals were first career markers for Mugerwa, Fieldman and Short.

Anna Maria's lone goal came via senior midfielder Sandy Acosta (Lawrence, Mass.), who got the AMCATS on the board with seven minutes remaining in the first half.

Freshman goalie Lauren White (Lynnfield, Mass.) picked up the win for Emmanuel, stopping six of Anna Maria's seven shots on goal.  Tuleja snagged a team-high four groundballs to lead the Saints defensively.  Freshman Shannon Donovan (Marlborough, Mass.) made six saves in the effort for the AMCATS.

The win moved the Saints to 9-4 on the season and 5-4 in GNAC play.  Anna Maria fell to 0-12 overall and 0-9 in the league.  Emmanuel has now clinched the No. 5 seed in the upcoming GNAC Tournament.  The Saints will travel to Standish, Maine on Wednesday, April 24, to take on the 4th-seeded Monks of Saint Joseph's College.  During the regular season, Emmanuel suffered just a one-goal loss to Saint Joe's, falling 15-14.
