Women’s Lacrosse Sharks Bite AMCATS in GNAC matchup

PAXTON, Mass. (3.21.13) – Simmons College scored 13 first half goals to defeat Anna Maria College by the score of 20-4 during the Great Northeast Athletic Conference women's lacrosse match-up at AMCAT field on Thursday night. The win pushes the Sharks to 3-1 (2-0 GNAC) while the AMCATS remain winless, 0-3 on the season.

 

Freshmen Emily Adriaansen (Pepperell, MA) and Kylie Dalbec (Portland, ME) each notched a team-high two points for Anna Maria, while Michelle Costa (Hull, MA) and Brittany Jackson (Larchmont, NY) both added a point.

 

Simmons had eleven different players fill the stat sheet in the win. First year player Ashley Sheehan (North Attleboro, MA) tallied five goals for the Sharks while senior attack Rachel Wallace (Braintree, MA) added four goals and two assists for a six point night.

 

The Sharks opened the game with three goals in the first ninety seconds of the game, however the AMCATS settled in on offense and cut the lead to 3-1 when Adriaansen potted her second goal of the season at 24:46.

 

Trailing 3-1, the Sharks poured in 10 unanswered goals to finish off the first half and take a commanding 13-1 lead into intermission. Ali Stonehouse, Stephanie Oliveri and Callie Warnock each had a pair of goals in the first stanza for Simmons.

 

AMC opened up the second half with a pair of Dalbec unassisted goals to make it a 14-3 game.

Simmons responded with a 6-1 run to push the final to 20-4.

 

Goaltender Sarah Lathrop (Milford, MA) posted an amazing 17 saves in the loss, while Crystal Derosier and Kelly Last spilt time between the pipes.

 

Anna Maria returns to action on Saturday when they travel to St. Joseph University for a 5:15pm match at CCSU.
