AMCATS Fall to Emerson, 18-5 on Senior Night

Paxton, Mass. – Senior Sandy Acosta (Lawrence, Mass.) notched two goals and an assist for the AMCATS in a 20-5 loss to visiting Emerson College in Great Northeast Athletic College (GNAC) women's lacrosse action on Wednesday night at AMCAT Field.

With the win the Lions move to 8-6 (5-2 GNAC), while Anna Maria remains winless at 0-10 (0-7 GNAC) on the season.

In a pre-game senior night ceremony Head Coach Samantha Aucoin thanked her two upperclassmen, Sandy Acosta and Kristina Brown (Charlestown, Mass.) for their contribution to the program.

Freshman Kylie Dalbec (Portland, ME) notched a pair of goals and had a team-high 5 groundballs for AMC, while Emily Adriaansen added a single goal. Acosta also had four groundballs.

The Lions were led by junior Chelsea Phillips (Waterford, Conn.) who poured in five goals, including her GNAC leading 64th marker of the year.

Junior Kanika Misra notched the first goal of the game just 49 seconds in to give the visitors a 1-0 lead. Anna Maria answered back with a pair of scores. Acosta made a nifty move in front of the net for an unassisted tally, while Adriaansen had a wrap-around goal from behind the net to give the AMCATS an early 2-1 advantage.

However, the Lions would rock a 12-0 run over a twelve minute span to break the game wide open. Phillips would net a hat trick while Alex Corrado, Tracie Lombardo and Tayllar Righini would all contribute a pair of goals.

Acosta would tip the twine for her second of the game and 24th of the season at the 8:32 make to cut the lead to 13-3 but Emerson would add two more to hold an 15-3 lead heading into the locker room.

AMC scored the first two goals of the second stanza to cut the deficit to 15-5. Acosta would find Dalbec cutting through the zone for the first score at 23:19 and then Dalbec would add an unassisted marker at 20:51 for her second of the game and 21st of the season.

The Lions would close out the scoring with five goals over the remaining ten minutes for the 18-5 final.

Anna Maria concludes the season on Saturday afternoon when they travel to Emmanuel College for a GNAC showdown starting at 3:00pm.
