Cadets Top AMCATS in GNAC Play

Paxton, Mass. – Anna Maria College senior midfielder Sandy Acosta (Lawrence, Mass.) scored two goals, but Norwich University's Grace Fitzpatrick netted five goals and an assist to help pace the Cadets to a 19-4 victory in Monday evening's Great Northeast Athletic Conference women's lacrosse game at AMCAT Field.

With the loss, Anna Maria remains winless at 0-10 (0-7 GNAC), while Norwich University improves to 4-6 (3-4 GNAC) on the season.

 Norwich potted 10 first half goals to help stake its win including three from Fitzpatrick and two each from Chandler Camlin and Emma Smith.

Anna Maria made it a 2-1 game at 19:26 of the first half when freshman Emily Adriaansen (Pepperell, Mass.) notched an unassisted maker, her ninth goal of the season. Acosta tipped the twine with her first goal of the game with 5:54 remaining in the half to make it a 4-2 game. Norwich added six straight goals to close out the half to hold a 10-2 advantage at intermission.

In the second stanza, Acosta opened the scoring with her 21st score of the year. The Cadets would finish with a 9-1 run including two more from Camlin to pad the lead to the 19-4 final. Freshman Kylie Dalbec (Portland, Maine) would add her 19th of the season for the AMCATS at 16:39.

Freshman Shannon Donovan (Marlboro, Mass.) made eight saves in the loss, while her counterpart Cheyenne Mata-Notel posted eight saves between the pipes for the win.

Anna Maria is back in action on Wednesday night when it hosts Emerson College at 6:30 pm at AMCAT Field.
