Raiders Run Past Lady AMCATS in Women's Lacrosse

Nashua, NH, Raider Field – The Rivier University Raiders (5 – 3, 2 – 2 GNAC) defeated the visiting Anna Maria College AMCATS (0 – 7, 0 – 5 GNAC) 16 – 11 tonight in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference matchup. 

 

The visiting AMCATS were paced by Kylie Dalbec (Fr, Portland, ME) 3 goals and 4 ground balls, Sandy Acosta (Sr, Lawrence, MA) 3 goals and 2 ground balls, and Shannon Donovan (Fr, Marlborough, MA) 4 ground balls.  Shannon Donovan (Fr, Marlborough, MA) went the distance in goal recording 9 saves.

 

Leading the way for the Raiders were Rebecca Wickens (Jr, Tyngsboro, MA) 6 goals, 1 assist, and 5 ground balls, Lauren Brett (Sr, Otisfield, ME) 5 goals and 1 ground ball, Jessica Amaral (Jr, E. Providence, RI) 2 goals, 4 assists, and 4 ground balls, Paxton LaRocque (Fr, Londonderry, NH) 1 goal and 4 ground balls, and Georgia Steese (Sr, Wilmont, NH) 2 goals and 3 ground balls.  Danielle Moran (Fr, San Diego, CA) was once again strong in net, making 4 saves in the win.  Caleigh Bertolaccini (Sr, Chelmsford, MA) split time in goal with Moran, contributing 3 saves to the cause. 

 

The Raiders jumped out to a 4 – 0 lead in the first 10 minutes.  Paxton LaRocque opened the scoring, with Rebecca Wickens adding two and Lauren Brett adding one.  The visiting AMCATS answered with three goals to pull within one at 4 – 3.  Rivier responded strongly, firing in 13 straight goals – 10 straight to close out the 1st half and 3 straight to open the 2nd – to build a 17 – 3 lead and put the game out of reach.  The Raiders and AMCATS traded 7 goals over the remainder of the contest for the final scoreline of 20 – 7.

 

The Raiders return to action this Saturday with another GNAC opponent, traveling to St. Joseph's, CT for a 1:00 pm tilt.  Anna Maria returns to action next Monday night with an away contest versus Wheelock College.
