Women’s Lacrosse: Mustangs Sprint Past AMCATS in GNAC Action

Wednesday, March 27, 2013 (Newton, Massachusetts) - The Mount Ida College women's lacrosse team collected their first Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) victory of 2013 with a 17 win over visiting Anna Maria College Wednesday afternoon on Alumni Field. The hosts overpowered the visiting AMCATS firing 34 shots for the contest only surrendering nine chances to the Anna Maria.

This is the second straight victory for the hosts improving to an overall record of 3-5 with a 1-2 GNAC slate moving up in the league standings a couple of spots. The AMCATS are still searching for their first win of the season falling to 0-5 for the year, 0-4 in league action.

Along with an impressive offensive performance from Basler, Mount Ida saw two goals and an assist each from junior attacker Molly Sheppard (Brookhaven, NY/Bellport) and sophomore midfielder Amanda Bowen (Randolph, VT/Randolph Union). Seven other Mustangs would add a goal led by senior defender Alexandria Milot (Tiverton, RI/Tiverton) and sophomore attacker Nicole Peixoto (New Bedford, MA/New Bedford) both notching two assists as well. Between the pipes for the hosts was senior Kayla Musty (Topsham, VT/Oxbow) seeing all 60 minutes with minimal action tallying five saves. Sheppard also led the middle circle on the afternoon with a game-high eight draw controls and three caused turnovers.

For the AMCATS, their two scores came in the second frame with unassisted goals by senior midfielder Sandy Acosta (Lawrence, MA/Presentation of Mary Academy) and freshman Kylie Dalbec (Portland, ME/Portland). Freshman goaltender Shannon Donovan (Marlborough, MA/Marlboro) played the entire contest in net stopping 11 Mustang shots.

Anna Maria will head to Chicopee, Massachusetts and face non-league Elms College next Tuesday starting at 4:00 p.m.
