Softball Drop Two to Monks on Senior Day

PAXTON, MA: The Anna Maria College softball dropped both ends of a doubleheader against visiting St. Joseph's College (ME) on Saturday in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action in Paxton.

SENIOR DAY:

Prior to the game, the AMCATS recognized their graduating senior class as part of senior day. Ashley Garcia (Cornwall, NY), Sabrina Liston (Rehoboth, MA), Kassandra Register (Bakersfield, CA) and Niamh Cote (Tewksbury, MA) were honored by coaches, teammates, family members, and fans for their time with the softball program. Although their time with the program may be ending, they will forever be a part of the AMCAT family.

TURNING POINT:

• GAME ONE – Senior Sabrina Liston (Rehoboth, MA) did her part to keep the AMCATS in game one. She scattered seven hits over seven innings while only allowing one earned run. On the flip side, Monks' starting pitcher Meredith Pence (Remington, VA) kept the AMCATS bats in check, only allowing second inning singles to sophomore shortstop Eden Forget (Worcester, MA) and junior left fielder Kendall McNamee.
• GAME TWO – Was all Monks. A nine run second inning took the air out of the AMCATS early and they never recovered. A pair of Monk pitchers combined to hold the AMCATS to two Saylor Costa (E. Providence, RI) singles. Monks center fielder Lydia Goodnough (Kennebunkport, ME) was a perfect 3-3 at the plate and was only a double short of hitting for the cycle. She also drove in four runs.

UP NEXT:

The AMCATS will return to the field on Sunday when they travel to Emmanuel College for a doubleheader. The first pitch is scheduled for noon.
