PAXTON, MA: The Anna Maria College softball team swept a doubleheader against visiting Elms College on Thursday in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action in Paxton.

TURNING POINT:

  • GAME ONE – The AMCATS used a four-run sixth inning to come back from a 3-1 deficit. Sabrina Liston (Rehoboth, MA) led off the inning with a back single through the middle and was lifted for pinch-runner Rory Hughes (Worcester, MA) who advanced to second on a passed ball. Saylor Costa (E. Providence, RI) then scored Hughes from second with a double to right-center. Eden Forget (Worcester, MA) then moved Costa to third with a sacrifice fly to right before Kendall McNamee brought her home with a sacrifice fly to center to tie the game. With the bases empty and two outs, Kiara Edmonds (Lynn, MA) singled to left before giving way to pinch-runner Raven Carriere (Labroquerie West, MB). Samantha Dahill then put the AMCATS in front with a two-run home run.
  • GAME TWO – Saw the offenses open up for both teams. The Blazers opened the game with three runs in the first inning only to see the AMCATS respond back with four runs of their own followed by three more runs in the second inning. The winning run was scored on a sacrifice fly by Forget in the fourth that brought home pinch-runner Samantha Rintoul-Bonneau (Worcester, MA). After a four-run fourth for the Blazers in the fifth, Liston came out of the bullpen in game two to keep the Blazers off the scoreboard with a 1-2-3 sixth and scoreless seventh to earn the save.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Liston was 5-7 with two runs scored two more driven in at the plate in addition to earning the win in game one and the save in game two. She also recorded 11 strikeouts across the two appearances, including eight in game one.
  • Costa and Forget were both perfect at the plate in game two. Costa went 4-4 with an RBI and two runs scored while Forget was 3-3 with four RBI and a run scored.

UP NEXT:

The AMCATS will return to the field on Saturday when they host a doubleheader against St. Joseph's College (ME). The first pitch is scheduled for noon.
