Softball Rally But Fall To Blue Jays

BOXSCORE GAME 1

BOXSCORE GAME 2

PAXTON, MA: The Anna Maria College softball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader against visiting Saint Joseph on Monday in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action in Paxton.

BASICS:

Date: Monday, April 18, 2022

Score: St. Joseph 3, Anna Maria 2

Score: St. Joseph 9, Anna Maria 8

Records: Blue Jays of St. Joseph University 13-16 (4-8 GNAC) | AMCATS of Anna Maria 11-19 (4-8 GNAC)

TURNING POINT:

  • GAME ONE – Sophomore pitcher Eden Forget (Worcester, MA) was in control of the Blue Jays lineup for the first six innings. Scattering six hits and allowing only one run. The AMCATS had a 2-1 lead heading into the seventh inning when the Blue Jays finally strung a series of hits together. A lead-off single by Jenna Masiello (Cromwell, CT) was followed by a double to center by Jenna Zup (Berlin, CT). A single to right by Frankie Ferrante (Southington, CT) brought both players home. Forget then settled down and closed out the inning but the AMCATS would fail to score in the bottom of the inning, leaving the tying run on base.
  • GAME TWO – The AMCATS nearly pulled off a comeback in the second game. Trailing 7-1 entering the bottom of the fifth inning the AMCATS put up a four spot to cut the lead to a single run thanks to an RBI single by Sabrina Liston (Rehoboth, MA), a two-run double by Saylor Costa (E. Providence, RI) and a two-run single by Forget. After allowing a run in the top of the sixth, the AMCATS came back with another crooked number, putting up three runs on an RBI single by Michelle Cilley (Dracut, MA), and a two-run single by Liston. Sadly, the Blue Jays made the most of the extra-inning ghost runner rule, needing only a ground out, a single, and a sac fly to score a run in the eighth.

UP NEXT:

The AMCATS will return to the field on Wednesday when they host a doubleheader against Massachusetts Maritime Academy. The first pitch is scheduled for 4 pm.
