Valiants Cut Down Men’s Lacrosse 21-8

PURCHASE, NY. – The Anna Maria Men's lacrosse team (0-2) fell to the Valiants of Manhattanville College (1-0) at the GoValiants.com Field on Sunday, February 19th.

The AMCATS set the tone with an early goal Scored by Tommy Girard (Newbury, MA) assisted by Elie Charles (Stamford, CT)

The Valiants responded with three goals before the AMCATS answered back with a man up goal from Brennan Fields (Chicopee, MA) assisted by Girard(1g, 1a). 

Closing the first quarter behind the Valiants 4-2 the AMCATS tied things up in the first five minutes of the second quarter with a goal from Girard(2g, 1a) and a goal from Hank Gittines (Shrewsbury, NJ) assisted by Girard(2g, 2a).

All tied up the Valiants pulled away from the AMCATS putting away 3 more goals to regain their lead over Anna Maria. Gittiness would find the back of the net a second time, assisted again by Girard who closed out the first 30 minutes of play with five points (2g, 3a).

Fields closed out the first half with just 8 second left on the clock, putting away his second goal of the night. The AMCATS trailed 10-6 at half time.

A goal from Liam Bedenkop (Marson Mills, MA) would open up the third quarter for the AMCATS. Unfortunately the AMCATS would not find the back of the net again until the end of the third quarter with a gaol from Ethan Quinn (Dudley, MA), assisted by Fields. 

Now trailing behind the Valiants 14-8 the AMCATS must cover some serious ground to try and catch up in the final quarter. 

The Valiants however were able to hold off the AMCATS not allowing a single goal in the fourth quarter. The AMCATS would close the game out behind Manhattanville 21-8.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Tommy Girard collected his 7th point in two games.
  • This is the AMCATS first Meeting with the Valiants. 
  • Matthew Peicker (Bedford, NH) holds 31 saves in two games played 

WHAT'S NEXT

Anna Maria men's lacrosse is back in action on Wednesday, February 22nd where they will head to Henniker, NH to face off against the New England College Pilgrims. Opening face off is at 4:00PM.
