Anna Maria Falls 1-0 to ECSU

PAXTON, Mass.—The Anna Maria College field hockey team battled the Warriors of Eastern Connecticut State University for 60 scoreless minutes, but a goal by ECSU's Alex Kallgren (Dudley, Mass.) would prove to be the decision-maker as the AMCATS fell to the Warriors 1-0 in Thursday's non-conference game at AMCAT Field.

With the loss, the AMCATS fall to 1-2 on the season, while ECSU improves to 1-0.

The AMCATS dominated the first half and outshot the Warriors 9-2, forcing ECSU goaltender Samantha Scavo (Redding, Conn.) to make three first-half saves. The Warriors did not record a shot on goal in the first 35 minutes of play.

The tides turned in the second half, as the Warriors held a 10-3 advantage in shots and forced Anna Maria netminder Mary Kate Breen (Londonderry, N.H.) to make five saves.

In the 61st minute, the Warriors were awarded the ball just outside the circle, and Kallgren collected a bounce of Laura Chicorka's (Enfield, Conn.) stick. She then placed the ball past Breen to net the game-winning goal.

The AMCATS had 12 total shots on the afternoon, led by Kylie Dalbec's (Portland, Maine) team-high four shots (three on-goal). Kayla Garczynski (Norwood, Mass.) also finished the afternoon with four shots.

Scavo finished the game with six saves in the shutout.

Anna Maria is back in action on Tuesday, September 9, when it hosts Becker College in a cross-town rivalry at 4:00 p.m.
